ABOUT GERRY MCCANTS

Gerry McCants, has always been an advocate for minority business ownership, consumerism and its subsequent purchasing power.  It has been an overriding theme throughout his career.  A native of Columbia, South Carolina, McCants is the president and owner of McCants Communications Group, Inc.  The media executive holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Urban Studies from Virginia Union University as well as numerous prestigious certifications and programs, most notably his completion of the Dartmouth University Tuck School of Business Minority Business Development Agency Executive Program. 

 

A true businessman and leader, McCants is the former statewide president of the North Carolina Black Chamber of Commerce.  He currently serves on various boards, committees and organizations, including, but not limited to North Carolina A&T State University Interdisciplinary Center for Entrepreneurship and E-Business Advisory Committee and the Wells Fargo Bank Advisory Board-Greensboro, North Carolina.  He has been an integral consultant and board member for countless councils, committees, and boards throughout the southeastern United States.

Appointed by the Greensboro City Manager, McCants currently serves as the chairman of the City of Greensboro MWBE Community Relations Steering Committee.  McCants has been self-employed for more than 23 years, his desire to see more diversified business and consumer interaction, especially within minority communities, is the driving force behind his strong and continuous work effort. It is also what compels McCants to devote countless hours traveling nationally and internationally engaging other business owners and educating them on the importance of strategically marketing to the ever-changing and diverse consumer and business audience.  McCants is extremely involved and invested in all his projects and endeavors.  Many of his business relationships and consultations require a great deal of hands on, direct involvement, which provides for greater outreach opportunities and relationship development.  Consequently, McCants has a first-hand understanding of real-world communication tactics and networking.  It is that very understanding that enables him to successfully steer the machine that is McCants Communications Group.
